News From The Week! 9/23/12

This week was very eventful for our class! We learned a lot of new things and made many new discoveries!

This week we started learning about the letter B. We practiced how to write the letter B each day. We also learned many things that start with the letter B, such as bugs and books. We decorated the letter B with things that start with B. We also made our own bugs out of the letter B! We explored many different animals starting with the letter B such as butterflies and bears. We also made bubble machines out of cups and soap!

We also started learning about the number 1. We tried to think of all of the things we have that involve the number 1. We discovered that we all have one nose and one mouth. We also discovered that Camryn has 1 brother. Also, Noah has one dog named Roxie. We also learned one-to-one correspondence. This is a foundational math skill that is the ability to match numbers to object or object to object. For example, we did an activity call spill the bears. The children shake a cup full of bears and then pour the bears out. The children then count each bear, using their fingers to touch each one. This is a hard concept for children to grasp so we will be working on it all year long!

Our most exciting part of the week was filling out our "We Matter" activities. We discussed how each person and animal has its own unique contribution to the world. Each child wrote about their unique genius and why that quality is important.
